The Digital and Information Services team guide WorkSafe Mahi Haumaru to make sound technology decisions, investing where appropriate, and leveraging common easy to use systems that are well connected, secure, managed, and standardised.
We are committed to enabling WorkSafe and our users, using practical tools and appropriate systems, to harness the power of digital to support a healthy and safe workplace.
About the role / O te turanga
In this role, youll be accountable for delivering user-centric design outcomes that are intuitive, accessible, and inclusive. Youll be a key contributor in cross-functional product teams, engaging closely with internal stakeholders, subject-matter experts, product owners, and WorkSafe Mahi Haumaru customers. Excellent communication skills are essential-youll need to listen deeply, collaborate across all levels of the business, and lead user engagement activities to gather insights and validate design decisions.
Your ability to empathise with users, particularly those navigating difficult processes, will be critical. Many of our customers may not be digitally confident, so your designs must make their experience as straightforward and stress-free as possible. Experience in service design, design thinking, and Lean UX will support your ability to zoom out to the full journey and zoom in to the interface-level detail. The role will require someone with a high degree of learning agility, curiosity, and a continuous improvement mindset.
What Youll Do/ Ko tou ake mahi
- Identify and engage with internal and external stakeholders and work collaboratively with key groups to understand their experiences, pain points and needs.
- Develop user journey maps (or blueprints) to include an integrated view of the high-level business processes that enable their users experience and the channels that users can utilise to interact with WorkSafe Mahi Haumaru.
- Understand current underlying problem/s and make recommendations on opportunities for improvement.
- Prioritise ideas and identify insights to envision the customer future state experience based on key metrics and data to inform business and product innovation.
- Undertake user testing of potential solutions and communicate key findings back to stakeholders.
What Youll Bring / Ko nga pukenga ou
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to engage effectively with users, leaders, and subject matter experts across a diverse organisation.
- Proven experience across the full design process, particularly in user research, experience design, UX strategy, and using tools like Figma.
- Deep understanding of human-centred design methods such as Design Thinking, Lean UX, journey mapping, and storyboarding.
- Adaptable and analytical mindset, with strong research skills and the ability to navigate changing environments and interpret business needs.
- Solid grasp of digital practices and technologies would be advantageous, including Agile, Azure DevOps, Figma and Lean UX.

Salary range / Awhe utu
As part of our remuneration framework the full salary range for the position is from $99,959 to $131,904, and our expected starting base salary for the right person is from 99,959 to $110,000. Note: KiwiSaver/SSRSS employer contribution is additional to/on top of your base salary.
